There's a new movie hitting theaters soon which has been creating a lot of buzz here in Canada... Charlie Bartlett stars Canadian talent such as, Lauren Collins, Jonathan Malen, Ishan Davé, David Brown, and many others... the film hits theaters February 22nd!!
Today I sat down and spoke to one of the Canadian stars, Lauren Collins, who also plays Paige on Degrassi: The Next Generation... she gave me an inside look at how Charlie Bartlett came together...
How was it working with Robert Downey Jr. and Anton Yelchin??
When I read the script for Charlie Bartlett I knew that no matter WHAT I had to be a part of this movie. The role didn't matter, I was just so happy that a movie of this quality was being made and in Canada to boot! Then, to top it off I find out Robert Downey Jr is one of the leads! I spent very little time on set with him but I soaked up every minute! He was just fascinating to watch, a professional in every sense of the word. I also knew after reading the script that the producers would have a hell of a time finding someone to handle the complex role of Charlie...thank God for Anton Yelchin. Watch out for him, this young guy is going to be sweeping Hollywood before we know it. He's unbelievable and a truly sweet, down to earth guy.
What is your character Kelly all about in the film??
Kelly is one of the cheerleaders at the public school that Charlie attends after he gets kicked out of his last private school. She's a bit of your typical airhead! And she was so much fun to play!!
What would your opinion be on a girl who wanted breast implants such as your character?
I think that perhaps my character was a little young for breast implants at 16 years old and I'm not sure her reasons were right either! It's really the kind of thing that is case sensitive.... if the girl wants to do it for the right reasons and has clearly thought out the situation I don't think its so terrible
How long did the filming go on for??
We filmed for about 3 months in the summer of 2006
Why if it was filmed in 2006 did it take so long to finally come out... it was suppose to come out last summer?!

Are you surprised at all the Canadian talent in the film??
I loved that the producers were so open to casting Canadian Talent!! A lot of American companies get scared away from that idea and the producers really embraced the talent here.
Are you still going to be on Degrassi??
I can be seen in the upcoming season of Degrassi which premieres this Monday at 7:30 on CTV. As far as my future as Paige goes...we'll have to see!! The season ends for her in an interesting place...there are many doors open for her and it'll be interesting to see what's next
